Career Details
Position Function: The Parent Education Facilitator is responsible, as assigned, for facilitating parent education groups for parents who are enrolled in PEP. The Parent Education Facilitator must independently devise and implement parent education sessions to include set up and clean up. The parent education classes should be designed to provide parents with more effective parenting skills when dealing with their children. The Parent Education Facilitator is responsible for educating and facilitating meaningful learning experiences for the parents who attend. Duties and Responsibilities: Major highlights of the position requirements are noted below. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required. • Develop and maintain parent education classes for all parents who attend PEP • Outreach and counseling to parents to encourage attendance and participation • Administer pre and post test to every parent who attends the program/s • Provide assigned parents with safe, growth promoting parent education classes and activities • Immediately notify the Site Director when safety concerns arise • Enhance parent skill development by modeling appropriate skills and by providing direct instruction and guidance • Provide parents with crisis counseling as needed • Document Parent Education classes and activities as assigned Work Habits: • Arrives on time for all meetings and appointments • Apprises supervisor and administrative support staff of changes to schedule in a timely fashion • Dresses appropriately based on scheduled activities for the given day • Interacts with children, families and staff in a supportive and respectful manner • Completes required documentation in a timely manner • Supports agency policies and implements all procedures consistently Professional Development: • Accepts direction willingly from supervisor and follows supervisory suggestions and directives • Cooperates willingly and flexibly with supervisory and administrative requests to perform additional duties. • Participate in team meetings and supervisory sessions as scheduled • Attend conferences and workshops related to the provision of parent education services • Be familiar with all relevant licensing procedures for the Philadelphia Department of Human Services and the State Department of Public Welfare; • Ensure that all case notes are completed and submitted weekly • Work to encore that all standards are met daily • Participate in the program evaluation process • Treat parents, families, youth and other community residents as primary consumers of the Parent Education Facilitator’s services by responding to complaints and/or concerns in a timely and supportive manner Education/Experience Requirements: Masters level human services and at least two years of experience working with parents and families facilitating parenting groups. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; • Must be able to keep good records. • Must have some teaching skills. • Must be able to organize and prepare training materials and provide support during workshops. Work Environment and Primary Work Locations: • Up to 6 hours a week • Evening and/or weekend hours required • At Neighborhood Centers or Community Facility Physical Considerations: • Must be mobile enough to perform responsibilities of the job.
