STS- LEAD CLINICIAN DEPARTMENT: BHRS Services- School Therapeutic Services REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Lead Clinician reports to the STS Clinical Manager for case assignment and administrative supervision. The Consulting Psychiatrist provides clinical supervision. QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in a mental health discipline (MSW, Counseling, Psychology, etc.) or a degree, which contains at least 12 credits of psychology coursework. In order for a degree to count as a mental health degree, the degree must contain at least 12 credit hours in core behavioral coursework (i.e. individual, group and family therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, psychopathology, child development, personality theory, etc.) At least one year of experience providing treatment in a mental health setting is also required. GENERAL JOB DEThe Lead Clinician provides child centered, family focused psychotherapy in the school setting, depending on the needs of the child. The Lead Clinician is also responsible for addressing defined problems, as specified in the treatment plan, utilizing a strength-based approach to treatment. The Lead Clinician generally takes a leadership role in the development and implementation of the youth’s treatment plan, provides on-site supervision to the Behavioral Health Workers, and Group Therapist within the STS program. The Lead Clinician will also interface with managed care entities. The LC ensures that all areas the program including documentation, authorization, quality improvement and compliance are within the agency standaSCRIPTION: rds. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assessment and Planning Responsibilities: • Attends the youth’s Interagency Service Planning Meeting; • Participates in the development of the youth’s treatment plan; • Maintains regular contact with all the members of the treatment team to provide and receive feedback on the youth’s performance; • Provide emergency assessment and intervention when critical situations arise requiring such interventions, as assigned by the consulting psychiatrist. • If the child is taking medication, monitors that the child is regularly taking the prescribed medication. Youth/Family Responsibilities: • Provide individual psychotherapy in the home, school, recreation center and/or other community setting in accordance with the youth’s treatment plan; • Provide family therapy in the home and/or other community setting in accordance with the treatment plan developed by the treatment team; • Implement components of behavior modification developed in conjunction with the treatment team, as appropriate; • Provide skill teaching as outlined in the youth’s treatment plan; • Provide crisis intervention services as needed; • When the physical restraint of the youth is needed to insure the youth’s safe and other’s safety, use safe physical management restraints in accordance to agency guidelines. JOB DESCRIPTION STS- LeadClinician Page 2 of 3 Staff Related Responsibilities: • Provides weekly supervision of STS staff regarding the clinical progress of each case. Ensures that the treatment goals and objectives for the child are appropriate and achieved or modified to fit the particular needs of the child and family. Ensures appropriate services are being delivered to the family, and the clinical quality of documentation. • Assures that staff receives the necessary training to remain relevant and culturally com¬petent to serve the population. • Assists with human resource needs of the STS program including interviewing new candidates and supervising all members of the current staff as well as participating in performance evaluations of all current staff, and makes recommendations to Director. • Assists in the design of and if needed conducts clinical orientation for BSC, MT and TSS positions. • Completes weekly supervision checklist of each BSC, MT and TSS. Program Monitoring/ Quality Assurance: • Assures record keeping is in conformity with all regulatory/funding sources. • Implements and oversees quality assurance process for behavioral health programs. • Review all BSC, MT, and TSS notes weekly, and report on quality • Uses database and other information to monitor fiscal viability of all billing. Supervision of Clinical Activities: • Working closely with the STS Case Managers, makes sure that authorization paperwork is completed on time so there is a continuity of service and no lapse in service. • Maintains contact with schools, families, and other stakeholder staff as appropriate. • Is a resource to the child, family, treatment team, school, BSC, and MT in crisis and problem situations to help bring forward resolution. • When a child is discharged from the STS Program, makes sure that the family and residential treatment team are in full agreement with the discharge plan and all transition services are adequate and in place. • Carries out other related duties as assigned. Administrative Responsibilities: • Maintain record keeping and documentation procedures, including Progress Notes and Quarterly Progress Summaries, on assigned youth according to program policies and procedures and regulatory requirements; • Participate in biweekly clinical supervision; • Participate in evaluations by external agencies upon request; • Assist in the development of new and the revision of existing program policies and procedures. Ability to maintain composure in crisis situations with youth and adults. Ability to restrain youth in accordance with agency and state requirements. NORMAL WORKING HOURS: Hours vary depending on needs of the cases assigned.
