Most of our children are referred through Philadelphia County agencies. We do, however, serve the entire southeastern Pennsylvania region.

How are children referred for services?
Children are referred for services by county children and youth and mental health agencies.

How long does a child stay in care?
Depending upon each specific situation and the program, children remain in care for varying amounts of time. Some children stay in our residential treatment and foster care programs for an average of one year.

Is Carson Valley School and Carson College for Orphan Girls the same institution?
Yes, Carson Valley School has been in continuous existence since 1917, as Carson College for Orphan Girls, later it evolved to eventual incorporation as Carson Valley School in 1965.

Where do the children go when they are discharged?
Most children return home. In those situations where home is no longer an option for a child, adoption or independent living alternatives are sought.
