Harvey Silver has the acting career he always wanted! He plays the character of Neil, in NBC's "One World", a half-hour sit-com that appears on Saturday's Teen Lineup, at 11 AM. The show, "One World", is the story of five foster children living in a group home. Playing the role of a foster child comes easily to Harvey.
In real life, Harvey was placed in foster care at the age of four. When he was fourteen years old, he came to live at Carson Valley School, in the Residential Treatment Program. When he arrived at Carson, he was very much an introvert. He loved to read and write poetry and short stories. After much coaxing by Ruby Hall, Carson's Recreation Supervisor, Harvey played the part of an angel in Carson's Christmas show, and the dream of becoming an actor took hold! As a matter of fact, he asked his peers to call him "Denzel Washington".
Harvey never lost sight of his dream. He pursued acting as much as he could. His grandmother was instrumental with Harvey's pursuits. She always told him that he could be whatever he wanted to be. She passed away while Harvey was at Carson. He managed to redirect his anger over the loss of his grandmother, into writing and acting. Harvey left Carson when he was seventeen.
He got his first break at Society Hill Playhouse four years ago, and his career has blossomed ever since. He has appeared in TV commercials and various sit-coms, including NYPD Blues. He also had a role in a movie with Shaquil O'Neil titled "Steel". All of this "big time" called for a move to Los Angeles.
Harvey hasn't forgotten his Carson Valley family. This past March, he stopped in for a visit and spoke to the children on campus. His message was simple, "Live your dream and stay focused. You can be anything you want to be!" He would like to spend a summer working at Carson, just to "give back" to the place that made a difference in his life, a place where he felt safe, and where his dream was supported.
He still has a dream of costarring with Denzel Washington in a movie! All of us at Carson are very proud of Harvey and we are certain that one day we will see him on the big screen with Denzel!
